Job Summary

So much to do, so little time! As we inch closer to product-market fit, the opportunities at our doorstep grow, and yet our ability to act on them is limited by our existing team and capacity at present. One outcome is that we struggle to consistently review, scrutinize, and iterate on our existing business operations - especially from a perspective of data-driven interrogation and decision-making. As a result, we are not fully tapping the opportunities that exist within our current operations, nor have we fully understood the requirements - system/process, human resources, working with external stakeholders etc. - or built the muscle for integrating changes, stemming from tweaks to existing business operations or addition of new ones, into the day-to-day of the business. Efforts cutting across these fronts will form the foundation of the Head of Commercial Operations role. Job Details

Performance management + optimization 

The auto industry is a treasure trove of data.
Peach has a small, but growing, data set on cars, customers, and how we do what we do (and we’re collecting more data each and every day!). Analysis of our data can point to opportunities unseen, ways to address challenges, etc. - we’ve seen this happen before and it made waves across our company, altering how we thought about our business (broadly), as well as what we do on a day-to-day basis, how we spend time, effort, money, etc. Here, the Head of Commercial Operations would work with internal stakeholders and data streams to structure data collection and storage efforts, better understand baseline(s), identify opportunities / challenges, brainstorm levers we might pull for improvement, growth, ROI, etc. and then work alongside the team leads throughout a journey of pressure testing and rapidly iterating on hypotheses. This will include management of our existing data and performance indicator tracking tools: (1) North Star Metrics, (2) Financial KPIs, (3) Non-Financial KPIs, and (4) OKRs.

Financial Controller

After understanding our current financial operations and models the Head of Commercial Operations will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring accuracy in our financial records, conducting regular reviews to fix any issues, creating financial models to inform strategic decision making, and managing external providers for tax and financial compliance in Kenya and Japan

Change management 

After working with the team to understand what’s going well and what isn’t, the Head of Commercial Operations will be responsible for integrating changes - of their own design or otherwise - into the existing business operations and organizational structure to realize improvement(s). This will require tight collaboration and rapport between the Head of Commercial Operations and the stakeholders impacted, as the former will require weigh in and/or buy from the latter according to the effort at hand. This will look like even tighter day-to-day collaboration with and management of the team through change(s), setting up the systems/processes and structures to ensure the change(s) takes. An understanding of and ability to leverage situational leadership will be a must!

Other 

Given the right candidate, additional value-adding efforts, such as supporting preparation for and execution of fundraising vis-a-vis analyses and communication tools, or expansion planning and implementation, could very well be part of the roles and responsibilities. Examples include…
- Inspection center design, build and integration
- Facility expansion
- Commercial business unit expansion
- Act as project manager to legal counsel / legal requirements at Peach Cars
- R&D efforts at Peach Cars
- Other needs as they may arise

Requirements

  • An MBA or other post graduate degree in a business related course
  •  The ideal candidate for this position should have proven experience in either consulting,
    venture capital, corporate finance, operational leadership, C-suite, or strong experience
    in project management, as these skills are critical to the success of the role
  • Candidates should be a strategic thinker and coordinator by nature, with demonstrated
    successes in using data to pull out insights and ask the next question. The candidate
    must have experience in Business Intelligence and has the ability to analyze and
    interpret data for use.
  • Candidates should also be highly-collaborative and understand how to “work through
    others” to ensure she/he is able to scale her. His efforts and impact across the company.
  • Candidates must be expert communicators, knowing how to sit in between multiple
    (potentially tens) of stakeholders and ensure everyone knows what they need to know,
    when, etc. and get the feedback as well as results needed to advance.
